Inspection and Emissions

PA State Inspection

PA Safety Inspections

Pennsylvania requires safety inspections for most vehicles. In some counties, vehicles must also pass an emissions inspection. All safety and emissions inspections must be performed at an official state inspection station. Your vehicle must pass inspection to continue to legally operate on Pennsylvania’s roads.

Safety inspections are performed on over 11 million Pennsylvania cars annually at hundreds of state inspection stations; Dexter's Service & Collision is an authorized inspection station for safety inspections and emissions inspections.

We serve Bradford, PA, Kane, PA, and surrounding areas.

What Gets Checked During a PA Safety Inspection?

Passenger cars and light trucks require safety inspection technicians to check the following:

  • Suspension Components
  • Steering
  • Braking Systems
  • Tires & Wheels
  • Lighting & Electrical Systems
  • Glazing (Glass)
  • Mirrors
  • Windshield Washer Fluid
  • Defroster
  • Wipers
  • Fuel Systems
  • Speedometer
  • Odometer
  • Exhaust Systems
  • Horns & Warning Devices
  • Body
  • Chassis

An Emissions Inspection is also required depending on your county.

What Happens if My Vehicle Doesn't Pass Emissions?

If your vehicle doesn't pass inspection, one of our trained advisers will be available to answer any questions you have, explain the problem, and address how to correct it. If the problem is repaired and we are your initial inspection station, we can reinspect your vehicle for free within 30 days.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Website states:

"Your re-inspection will be free, as long as you have it done within 30 days at the same place that conducted the initial inspection. If your car still doesn't pass the inspection, and you can show that you have spent at least $150 on emissions-related repairs, you may be eligible for a one-year waiver."

"In some cases, you may have to spend more if the repair is the only reasonable way to address the problem, such as replacing a catalytic converter. You must obtain an emissions sticker or a waiver from a certified inspection station and pass a safety inspection before a permanent safety inspection sticker can be applied to your vehicle."
